Sermon: Mark Dever pastors a church in Washington, D.C. This sermon comes from a conference on the West Coast several years ago, but it’s a good one. One of the themes tying Confirmation and Baccalaureate together was the significance of the Bible, and I hope you’ll recognize another reason why this sermon came to mind this morning.

Catechism: Who is the Redeemer?

Song: This isn’t spiritual, just a playful enjoyment of Americana. At a confirmation party yesterday I was chatting with Joyce Tvedt about odd old country songs, and she introduced me to “The Bridge Washed Out, I Can’t Swim, and My Baby’s on the Other Side.” I recalled one of the oddest songs I ever heard played at a funeral I’ve officiated called, “Ya Gotta Quit Kickin’ My Dog Around,” by a band called The Skillet Lickers in 1926.
