Waiting for something is usually not all that much fun. There is something in the human spirit that wants things now. We don’t like to wait. But it seems as though the believer is a professional “waiter”. We are waiting for the salvation that we have now tasted of to come to us full and complete. We are waiting for the communion bread and wine to become the full meal at the marriage supper of the Lamb! But God is working out His plan and all things will happen just at the right time, bringing the fullness of all that God has planned for His people. And so we wait upon Him.
Did you know that Jesus is waiting too? Jesus came into our world, lived and taught the perfect life, died on the cross, rose again, and ascended back to heaven. And now He sits at the Father’s right hand, waiting! That’s what it says in Hebrews 10:13. Jesus too is waiting for that great day when the Father’s plan will come full and complete and then all those who have rejected Him will be made His footstool and all those who have accepted Him will reign with Him in His glorious Kingdom! Jesus, our brother, is waiting with us. He is sitting in the waiting room with us!
We are actually told that all of creation is also waiting for this great and wonderful day. Romans 8:22-23 says:
For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. (Romans 8:22-23 ESV)
So we are waiting, Jesus is waiting and the whole universe is waiting for that great and glorious day! And what a day that will be. Look around you today, and think about all the waiting that is going on, and let this great day of the Lord become your hope!
