Exodus 9:13-21

We will take two days to look at the plague of huge hail for there is much here to take note of.  Our reading today has only to do with the warning that this plague was coming.  And God was giving the Egyptian people a chance to protect themselves.   Even in His judgment there is mercy extended, if people would just listen.

And so, God says there is huge hail on the way, and he tells the Egyptians to get everything inside.  Some do, and they are delivered, to a certain extent, from the hail.  But some pay no attention whatsoever to God’s warning, and they will end up suffering deep loss.

God has sent out his servants across the face of the earth to warn people that a great judgment is coming.  But in the midst of this bad news there is mercy, for the Lord declares that all who would put their lives in the hands of Jesus will be saved from this coming day.  Now there are some in our communities who pay heed to this warning and they do find refuge in Christ by putting their whole faith in him.  But there are many others who pay no heed whatsoever.  What will happen to them?  We will find out tomorrow.

For now we are called upon to continue to proclaim the message of this gospel, and to continue to pay attention to it with a faith response to God.   This is the core issue of all of life!

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

(John 3:16 ESV)
