If you will recall, the Tabernacle had two rooms. The inner room, called the “Holy of Holies”, where the Ark of the Covenant was kept, of which we read about yesterday, and the other room, called the “Holy Place”. Today we are looking at the first piece of furniture in the other room of the Tabernacle. This was the Table of Show Bread, or the Table for the Bread of the Presence. On this table were placed 12 loaves of fresh bread each day, representing the 12 tribes of Israel. The idea was that God was always with His people, giving to them the bread of life. God Himself was truly the source of life for His people.
The Words of Jesus take on new meaning as we think about this piece of furniture in the Tabernacle. In John 6:32-35 we hear Jesus saying that He is the true bread of life!
Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” They said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
As we look to Jesus Himself, today, we will receive everything we need for life and godliness! The Table of the Bread of The Presence was a picture of Jesus who, does not simply give us what we need for life, but is Himself what we need. As we live in faith in the Son of God today, we are joined to the source of all life! Rejoice in that as you go about your schedule today!
